Yesterday picnic

Hi everybody,

rn

Yesterday was a good day for a picnic.  This time the picnic was at my sons house.  He and his wife had a lot of fruit snacks for everyone, and a vegetable tray.  There were some sweets, but mostly everyone was taking the fruits, and vegetables.

rn

I took whole wheat hamburger buns for the hamburgers, and they were appreciated.  A lot of people are becoming more health conscious now.

rn

Hope all of you had a nice weekend.  Take care.

Shopping with hubby

Hi everyone!

rn

Now that my husband is retired he likes to do some of the grocery shopping.  So yesterday after our bike ride, and walk we went to the grocery store.  He bought two cases of pop for “US”.  I said,” That isn’t for us, that is for you.”  Besides the pop he bought potato chips that he thought were a good buy, and dip.  Later in the day he bought a gallon of ice cream.  I am happy to say that I really am not tempted at all by these things.  A few days ago he brought in a bag of candy bars.  I think that eating like that is not good for him either, as I said before.  We went to a health fair, and he got a multi-phasic blood test, which tests for good and bad cholesterol.  I am hoping that his readings will be good, but wonder how could they be with the junk food he consumes.  I had a reading of cholesterol, and mine was good.  Last week he finished off a large bag of chips, with dip in a week.

rn

My cousin cousin Art died in January, and his wife said fifty percent of us have to go through being left.

rn

I would like to be around for awhile, and I would like for my husband to be with me.  He exercises about an hour a day, but loves junk food.  His system seems to tolerate this, but my system can’t take junk food  at all.

rn

Well dear slim buddies have a great day.

Making soup today

Hi everyone!

rn

I have been doing basically everything pretty much the right way condusive to a healthy life style.  The scale is not budging, but from prior successful diets I know that is normal.

rn

Yesterday morning I planned on riding my exercise bike three miles, but only did one.  My husband wanted to go to lunch, so we did.  Afterwards we went for a two mile walk.  So I got some exercise in.

rn

I think that going to the health fair is making my husband more health conscious.  He has already been exercising, and now he is not eating after 6:30 P.M.  That is when he gets his craving for junk food.  He still craves it, but is trying to cut it out.  I already have stopped my junk food for awhile now, and I am happy that he is  is also.

rn

While my husband is fishing today I plan on making  six quarts of chicken soup.  When I made that chicken soup a few weeks ago; along with cutting out junk food I lost some weight.  Today I will have plenty of time to make a great soup.  I will freeze some of it.

rn

Monday my son is having an outdoor picnic, and I am taking some whole wheat buns for the hamburgers.

rn

Have a great weekend everybody!

rn

Take care.

Getting to the top of the hill

Hi Slim Buddies,

rn

I have four beautiful daughters, and one of them I will talk about today.  My daughter Val is a beautiful girl who played basketball for eight years.  She played four years in high school, and four years in college.  She was skinny as a rail during this active period time of her life.  She now has three wonderful boys, and feels the need to become more healthy, and fit.

rn

Val was always athletic, but being in the house with babies curtails the active life style of an athlete. You are busy as a homemaker, but in a different way.  She never stopped doing things for her family, she drove the boys endlessly to their games, and was supportive of whatever they were doing.  Finally she decided to just get healthy.

rn

Vals’ neighborhood is condusive to having as many walking partners as you could ever wish for.  She started walking, and was feeling very winded.  Her friend who had been walking for awhile was sailing up the hills, and giving Val a pep talk on going faster, and doing better.  Val said, “I am not worried about all that I am just wanting to get to the top of the hill.

rn

Months later Val is doing so well, she feels healthier, and slimmer.  She lost twenty two pounds, and feels great.  She is getting a lot of compliments as people can tell she is getting slimmer.  Val is working out about an hour a day at the YMCA.  I am so proud of her.  I always was whether she was at her optimum or not.

rn

She got to the top of the hill; now the sailing is easier!  You can get to the top of the hill also!  All of you keep on trying.

rn

Take care of  yourselves!

Free Bees! lol

Hi everyone!

rn

This morning I was just doing my quiet routine getting my menu prepared, and writing to all of my slim buddies …. when two swarms of bees landed in my rose bush!  This is the third time within a week that I had a swarm of bees in my yard.  The first swarm was on the fence, and the second one was in my lilac bush!  The first swarm was taken by a local bee keeper.  When the second swarm came the beekeeper promised to come, but didn’t show up.  The bees left, but this morning two swarms were in my rose bush.

rn

When the beekeeper didn’t show up I advertised for a beekeeper on freecycle.org

rn

A girl, who is studying to be a forest ranger came and got them.  She was in a short sleeve shirt, and shorts, and had a bandana on her head.  She didn’t have an ounce of protection from the bees on her, and she sprayed the bees with sugar water with a little bit of vanilla.  Then she shook them into a box and taped the box up.  Bees were trying to get in the box because they could smell their queen.  They were still on the box when she put them in her car.

rn

What is amazing to me is that the beekeepers pay $100.00 to get a hive of bees.  The girl who is a beekeeper now has four hives.  A newspaper reporter came to take pictures of the bees, and the beekeeper, and he said that an orchard near him has to get bees periodically to pollinate the trees.

rn

As you can imagine I forgot all about food!   lol

rn

Take care!

On track

Hi all my wonderful slim buddies!

rn

My goals are to be a healthy energetic person.  I walked two miles with my husband on Friday, and yesterday I rode my exercise bike for three miles.  I felt a little sluggish, and forced myself to do it.  It was just a matter of doing it; it wasn’t hard.  Actually when I got started I felt good.  I put on one of the Walt Disney sing a longs.  I had them here when I used to watch my grandchildren.  They are so cheerful, and have some really nice songs on them.  They also happen to have enough time on them for me to do my goal of three miles.  Once I got started, and that is the key STARTED, going for that ride was a breeze.

rn

The reason I didn’t go with the Platters’ is that I couldn’t get the player on.  That is fixed now, so I will be using that also, but the Disney music did the trick of upbeat music.  It took me 28 minutes, and I usually go faster, but yesterday I took my good old time, and I did it.  Yea!

rn

I am holding my own on the healthy food regimen.  My husband brings in candy, pop, potato chips, dip.  When he brings in the junk food it is mega junk food, not just a little bit.  But I feel really good because I am resisting the junk food.  I just look at it, and think how much better I am going to feel when I am slimmer.  I am taking control of my life starting with not accepting a little junk food here and there.

rn

Have a great day everyone!

Resisting temptation

Hi everyone,

rn

I am so happy that I have gotten the feeling that I can resist sweet foods.  I think that having my supply of fruits and vegetables stocked helps.  As a matter of  fact I have to replenish my supply soon.  The fruit supply is getting low, and that really helps me.  I think that the blood sugar needs replenished for energy, and when it is replenished by candy or cookies the energy received is short term; leaving me with a feeling of a need for more.  Fruit is a longer energy source.

rn

Thinking of resisting temptation for ourselves is good, and what is good eating habits for ourselves is really good for our families also.  When my daughter got juvenile diabetes the doctor said her diet was perfect for the rest of the family.

rn

When we were younger, and thinner, we were not resisting the junk food.  Although when you think about it food is like an investment in the future of our bodies.  What we ate was ultimately not good for us, and can not be good for our children long term either.  What made me think of this recently was a beautiful heavier woman filling her plate, and her thin beautiful daughter following her filling her plate with the same things her mother was eating.  The food we eat catches up with us in the long run, and the habits of eating good are not started too soon.  Practicing control of what to put in our mouths should start as a habit in childhood.  Averting the  problem is easier than getting control of it later.

rn

Getting control of weight later though is better than not.  I am.  lol

Checking in

Hi everyone,

rn

Hope all of you are achieving your goals for better health.  I was talking to my daughter the other day, and she said there was a man working at the YMCA who had lost his wife five years ago.  She was over weight, and fatigued, took a lot of medicine, and finally passed away leaving two young children.  The man who worked there said he really likes to see people get into shape to prevent this type of tragedy.  The trainer himself had been overweight, but decided to get in shape so that his children would not be left alone in this world.  He now weighs about 140.

rn

When thinking of weight loss; think health.

rn

This week I don’t believe I have lost a pound, but I have maintained a loss.  I went to a health fair, and I did pretty good on the tests there.  My breathing was normal, my blood pressure was good, etc.  If you ever get a chance to go to a health fair; go, it is worth it.  The one I went to was for people forty and up, and was free.  If anything is wrong you are referred to a doctor.

rn

This month is skin cancer awareness, and they were giving free skin cancer screening.

rn

Take care everyone!

Bowling balls and weight

Hi all my slim buddies!

rn

Today I am getting rid of two bowling balls.  There is a site called freecycle.org that you can get rid of things, and it is international.  The site is promoted so that you can give or receive things that might end up in the dump.  Well; going around the bush to tell you a story, while I was getting ready to give them away I was thinking of how much each one weighed.  They both weigh about 14 pounds.  They felt very heavy to me, and I was thinking if I got rid of the weight of one bowling ball that would be good, but two bowling balls would be great!  So to make a short story long I was thinking of how I am shaped like an apple.  With my weight being right around my heart it makes it hard to breath.  I already feel better since I lost the ten pounds.  Thinking in terms of losing a bowling ball around the chest area makes me really want to follow through with this healthy regimen of diet and exercise.

rn

I am passing my motivational talk to myself to you dear buddies!

rn

By the way freecycle.org also has exercise equipment, exercise tapes every once and awhile.

rn

Have a great day  all!

Bike and Music

Hi everyone!

rn

Today I put on the Platters; love their songs, and rode my exercise bike.  Before I knew it I was past my three mile goal of three miles, I went 3.27 miles.

rn

I am feeling better now that I am exercising, and eating more nutriously.  I think I am losing it in the right places, it takes time to put it on, and it will take time to take it off.

rn

Take care!
