Up early!

Good morning everyone!

rn

I was up at 6:00 AM this morning!  Instead of lying there trying to get a few more winks I decided to get up.  I have a lot I want to do today anyway.  I have to do laundry, and some general organizing.  I want to get a half an hour in on the exercise bike while I have the clothes in the washer.

rn

I was busy this morning just taking care of me.  lol  I made oatmeal, got a glass of water, and juice.  This morning I am just planning my day.

rn

I read that if you ever had chicken pox that you should get a shingles vaccination.  I think that I had every childhood disease since I was born before they gave childhood immunization shots.

rn

When I write my journal to keep track of my food intake, and exercise, I also jot down little notes on the side of the journal notes to remind me to do things or make appointments.  The journal sure is helpful in keeping me focused.

rn

I am a smidgeon away from the next lower pound.  I am going to stay away from pasta this week as I think that is keeping me from going down some more.  I have the wheat pasta in my kitchen, but when we eat out the pasta is white.  When I was growing up, and when I had a family we had spaghetti at least once a week.  I was thin when I was younger, but I think that I am not burning enough calories now.  You ask why am I eating pasta?  Sometimes there isn’t much  on a menu when you are out that is good.  I am really particular on how long I cook meat, and sometimes I actually have to bring my meat home, and cook it again.

rn

Today is organization day for me.  I am full of energy this morning!  Later on in the day I will probably need a nap.  lol  I read that naps are good for you, and all of our presidents take a nap.  I take a little nap in the afternoon sometimes, and I don’t go to bed until 11:00 PM.

rn

I read recently that people need 9 and a half hours of sleep to get rid of free radicals that cause cancer.  I think that I get enough sleep to make sure that doesn’t happen.

rn

Well, take care everyone, and have a great day!

Blood testing

Hi Everyone,

rn

This morning I went to get a mutiphasic blood testing done.  I got the super special for women, which has the multiphasic blood test which does a lipid profile, screens foranemia, diabetes, coronary, kidney, and liver diseases, and more.  Plus PSA, CRP, Homocysteine, and a copy of the results are sent to my home.  This is really a great deal, and is done through the rotary club each year.  These tests would cost a lot more if ordered individually, but done for a group, is way cheaper.  The results are examined by a doctor, if anything is wrong they call you right away.  You get the results mailed to you, which have been examined by a doctor.  I have been getting these tests done since I was in my early forties.  What is good about them is they are preventative, and find things so early that they could prevent a problem.  Insurance companies usually only pay for tests after something happens.   When I was in my early forties I discovered I had a slightly elevated cholesteral, and triglycerides from having these tests done.  I had the results sent to my doctor, and he advised me to go on a lowfat diet.

rn

So guess what they were giving out there?  Since everyone fasts before the blood test they were giving out doughnuts, and coffee.  lol

rn

Hope all of you are in great health!  Have a great weekend!

Reading weight loss books

Hi Everyone!

rn

Every once in awhile I need to read about weight loss in order to keep me on the track.  When I was growing up there was little junk food around.  My dad had a large garden, fruit trees, and chickens.  All of it was organic.  So we ate healthy most of the time.  During the sixties while raising a family we didn’t have a lot of junk food around, as we needed money for raising the family.  I haven’t really baked a lot of sweets, because one of my children had diabetes.

rn

Retirement for my husband has meant that we can do things together.  This includes shopping for groceries.  I need to go grocery shopping without him, as he likes to fill the cart with junk food.  One of the rules in the nutri-system book is don’t take spouses or children with you, while you are grocery shopping, because they throw in extra things like snacks.

rn

DH and I went to Virginia to babysit for our younger grandsons, while their parents went to the University of Virginia with their eldest son.  My little Anthony is 6′5″, and 258.  I am not a football fan, but will be, because of him.  He will be the only one on the team for me.  lol

rn

I got my morning off to a pretty good start, eating first, and then exercising on the exercise bike.  I plan on reading a little more to keep my mind motivated, and on the ball where it comes to staying on the nutritional track.  Take care everyone.  Have a great day!

Quiet day

Hi Everyone,

rn

Today was a quiet day here.  My DH went fishing, which he does once a week.  He goes for the day.  He just called and is bringing home supper.  I asked him to not bring home mashed potatoes if it was on special, but to ask for vegetables.  There is a nice restaurant on the way home from where he goes fishing, that we go to once in awhile.  I never know exactly when he will be home when he fishes so we either go out to eat, or he brings something home.

rn

I have been watching what I have been eating, but the scale is up one pound.

rn

I put a picture of my mom, dad, and me from 1942 on my pictures.  The picture didn’t show up clear, but it really is a cute picture of them.  Mom was about 24, and dad was about 36.  I have been having a great time playing with my camera, and scanner.  I wasn’t able to do much with the other computer, which had a problem.  Now my computer is purring like a kitten.

rn

Everyone have a great day!

Happiness is

Hi Everyone!

rn

DH and I went to the grocery store yesterday, and replenished our fruit supply.  Fruit really makes a difference in the weight loss program, at least for me.  The last time I bought oranges they were dry, and inedible.

rn

The sweetness of the orange seems to satiate my need for sweets.

rn

DH networked our computers so that we could be on-line at the same time.  We have an older laptop, and the one that I received for Christmas.  DH discovered on-line poker on ESPN, and was in a little friendly competition with me for the computer.  Now I really didn’t mind, but was getting behind on the journaling, and my buddies blogs.

rn

I am having a little trouble categorizing the food that I journal.  Yesterday I made stuffed peppers, and I journaled them as meatballs.  I over state the calories rather than understate, because I want to be accurate.  With the fruit that we bought yesterday I feel like it might help in my weight loss.

rn

Have a great day everyone!

Hi

Hi Everyone!

rn

The holiday season is over now, and now down to business.  I made a delicious soup yesterday.  Lots of carrots, celery, an onion, and some canned chicken, and a can of low sodium chicken broth. The soup only took 20 minutes to cook, and it was filling.

rn

My DH was taking some weights to my son, and he called and asked if I wanted a “BIG”  box of Sarris Candy.  Sarris candy is too good.  I said if we get that we will both undo all the work we have done to try to stay fit.  So we just bought two candy bars instead, and each of us had one.

rn

This week no sweets are going to enter this house, or junk food.

rn

I hope all of you are doing well, and have a great day!

Good morning!

Hi Everyone,

rn

Today I am going tomake some vegetable soup.  I have been so busy that I haven’t had time in the kitchen, which I need to help stay nutrionally focused.

rn

I got up this morning, and played scrabble, and a game of cards.  I had coffee, and yogurt.  Today I am going to do my exercises.

rn

The cookies are finally out of the house, thank goodness.  My husband brought them back in from the garage, and we were eating about two a day.  When the cookies were in the garage, we were making “cookie runs”.  lol  Having the cookies in the garage made us go out into the cold to go get them.  We had to be really hungry for a cookie, and had time to decide whether we really wanted that cookie or not.  lol

rn

We got a gift certificate for Christmas, and we bought a pressure cooker with it.  One of my microwave pressure cookers had a broken seal.  I was previously afraid of using pressure cookers, but the new ones are supposed to be a lot safer.  My mother used to cook a lot with a pressure cooker, and made a lot of good soups.

rn

Have a great day everyone!  Take care.
